Winner of the 2015 National NAIDOC poster competition announced.

Congratulations to Elaine Chambers on winning the 2015 National NAIDOC poster competition.  Ms Chambers is a proud Brisbane born and bred Aboriginal woman with family links to the Kuku Yalangi/ Koa Mob.
Ms Chambers’ winning entry titled, We Stand on Sacred Ground, is a great representation of 2015 NAIDOC theme – We all stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate.  

The winning artwork, is a combination of photography, drawing and graphic work to represent the ages and colors of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the strong spiritual connection to the land and sea.

The lines and dots represent sacred areas throughout the country and joins with a meeting place in the center that represents the families and communities.

Ms Chambers’ artwork features the feet of four generations of her family, the most prominent feet being that of Father, Charlie Chambers Snr. Ms Chambers explains “those old feet there in the image are my Dad's feet, and he hands down information to us about the sacred grounds we stand on”.

When contacted about her winning entry, Ms Chambers was overwhelmed with excitement, saying “It makes ya 'mighty proud. I'm still shocked, but I'm so proud. This was my first entry in the competition and I'm so pleased to have won. I just hope that everyone else will like it.”

Ms Chambers and her family plan to celebrate NAIDOC week by getting out and about  see to their culture celebrated, she plans to see her mob, meet new people and particularly  loves to watch dancers at the local events.
