Maali Festival
CURATED BY IAN MICHAEL AND CHLOE OGILVIE
Set over two incredible days of NAIDOC Week, curators Ian Michael (Wilman Nyoongar) and Chloe Ogilvie (Yamatji Nhanda) bring us a festival reclaiming the State Theatre Centre in Maali, named after the Nyoongar word for black swan. In an act of celebration, community and gathering this multi-disciplinary arts festival will acknowledge and celebrate the incredible breadth and diversity of the world’s oldest living cultures. From traditional dance to a return of the groundbreaking play Bindjareb Pinjarra, with musical acts including electronic duo Electric Fields, Maali is both a connection to a place before, and a look towards the future.
