Sweet Country movie screening

Join us in celebrating NAIDOC Week at Palace Cinema to watch Warwick Thornton’s classic film, Sweet Country.

Sweet Country is set in 1929 in the outback of the Northern Territory and is based on a series of true events. It is the story of a young boy called Philomac, who witnesses Sam, an Aboriginal stockman kill station owner Harry Marsh in self defense. Sam and his pregnant wife Lizzie go on the run and a posse pursues them across the outback.

We will be joined by members of Bayside’s Reconciliation Advisory Committee to discuss this year’s NAIDOC Week theme “Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud”, and what this means to them. Prior to the movie screening, Bunurong Land Council will perform a Welcome to Country and yidiki performance.

Drinks and popcorn included.

When: Monday 8 July, 6:00pm – 8:30pm
Where: Palace Cinema, Brighton.
Cost: FREE
