Weaving Connections by Felicity Chapman (Deadly Weavers)
Felicity Chapman, aka ‘Deadly Weavers’, has travelled from Ngaro and Gia country (Airlie Beach) to participate as Toowoomba’s second feature artist in the Toowoomba Arts Footprint, Artists in Residence Program. Felicity’s aim with Deadly Weavers is to re-vitalise and preserve ancient cultural knowledge, shining a light on the treasured tradition of cultural weaving. "Cultural weaving provides mob with a powerful way of connecting with and reactivating cellular memories buried deep within DNA and builds a strong sense of identity. Through celebrating and honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander weavers and their cultural weaving practice, connections are made with culture and Country and strong, healthy communities are created." Deadly Weavers, 2020. This exhibition, 'Weaving Connections', displays works by Felicity and her workshop participants and showcases the weaving and friendships that Felicity has made in Toowoomba’s community throughout the residency.
